One of the changes in Alyssa's hometown of Shreveport was that it now has a decent bookstore that's adjacent to a cafe. Since she was an avid reader, she usually spent most of her spare time - whenever she wasn't feeling anti-social that is - since she's gotten back in Coffee Beans and Tea Leaves. This afternoon was one of those times.
She had just picked a copy of the installment in the new vampire series that most teenagers were just in love with. Alyssa didn't understand why the author kept writing and publishing these when the depiction of the vampires were very different from how they really were. For instance, what the hell is vervain? But, she bought it anyway; she did have a was, after all, quite fascinated by them.
With her new book one hand and a peppermint mocha in another, she made her way through the maze of tables and chairs and sat in the big blue chaise by the window. She'd like to have sat with her legs crossed on the on the chair and dive into the book but she made the mistake of wearing a short dress today. Instead, she put her coffee down on the low table in front of her and crossed her long, gorgeous legs. This movement seemed to have caught the attention of a guy who was sitting at the next table. It wasn't often Jaxon spent the day in Shreveport. He didn' even sleep in his own apartment most nights; too busy spending the nights with his lover Gabriel Argyros to return to the vampire filled town. During the day he either spent time wandering around Bon Temps, or in Gabriel's arms in a half daze - he'd gotten so used to the vampire's sleeping habits that most of the time he slept during the day and stayed up all night with his lover. Yet, for the last few weeks he'd been doing that less, spending more time in Shreveport at the college, finishing his courses before he could no longer attend them. For in a few short weeks he'd be of the same breed as his beloved Gabe. A vampire. A child of the night, as they were so gracefully referred to. And for once, he was enjoying the sunlight, the warmth, and the joy that came from socialising. Not that he didn't love spending time with Gabe... Quite the contrary. But he knew Gabe had things to sort out, as did he, and so sometimes the separation was good for them. It would make things easier in the future if anything were to happen to either of them.
It so happened that this one particular day he was sitting in a small bookstore adjacent to a cafe run by a friend of his that seemed to own both buildings, a large book resting on his lap as he rested his feet against the adjacent chair, fingers drumming against the pages. The book was on Greek literature, a time that he'd been studying since meeting Gabe, a time that he found fascinating. He wanted to know so much about his lover and where he'd come from, that he'd dived straight into all the books he could get his hands on. He supposed it also helped that his final thesis was to write a short story based around a particular time. And he was going for ancient Greece, the perfect subject, for he could ask Gabe for historical accuracy.
As he was reading, sipping at a caramel frappe as he did so, he noticed just to the left of him a slender blonde beauty. Well, that was a lie. The first thing he noticed about her was the way her dress slid up her thigh as her long and oh so sexy legs crossed over each other, his eyes taking in the gentle curves slowly. As much as he loved his dear Gabe, and everything about him, there was still something that drew him to a beautiful woman. But then, he supposed all men were like that in a way. A smirk clutched at his lips, forced the scowl he'd been sporting into a rather sexy look of appraisal as he let his eyes lift to meet her's.
"Well, hello," he chuckled softly, and half closed his book, letting his fingers just drum against his chin as he smiled at her, leaning back in his chair as he did so. "I don't think I've seen you around here before. And I've lived here my entire life..." Alyssa turned gracefully to her right where the voice came from. She grinned a little as what she saw didn't disappoint her at all. Sitting comfortably at the next table was an adorable boy, maybe a couple of years younger than she was, holding a pretty impressive-looking book. Her hand turned her own book over, a little ashamed to be caught dead reading The Vampire Diaries in this day and age. "Hello yourself," she said to him.
Her eyes wandered from his lovely eyes to his cute smile and she was suddenly glad that she wore that dress after all, the same one she cursed just minutes before. "It's my first time here. At the cafe, I mean." she answered. "I wish it was open back when I lived here." Alyssa took a careful sip of her hot drink, leaving a mark from her lipstick on the lid.
Almost a month now that she's been back in Shreveport and for teh most part, she's met vampires. In as much as they were her kind of company, at least secretly, she did need a nice human friend. After all, what if there was somewhere she wanted to go to in the morning? Her grin broke into a smile and she said, "Would you like to come and join me?" She moved her purse off of the other chair at her table and dropped it on the floor to make room. Alyssa Addison Baker

Jaxon's smile only grew brighter, and he dipped his head in a nod, his eyes slowly taking in her gentle curves once more before he stood, tucking the bulky Greek book under his arm and crossed to the chair she'd offered to him. As he sat, he held his free hand out to her, meaning simply to give her hand a gentle shake as his eyes lifted to meet his.
"My name's Jaxon, it's nice to meet you," he replied, placing the book on the table between them as he squeezed her fingers before sitting back. "How long have you not been in Shreveport, because this place has been open for the last three weeks...It's handy, because up until now there hadn't been any good bookstores around, and here they offer us a library and a place for refreshment."
And then he realised he'd been talking too much, and broke out into a grin again, before he sat back and ran a hand through his hair, his eyes falling on hers again. She certainly was a beauty, but as always, his heart was elsewhere. No one anywhere could compete with his Gabe. That didn't stop him from appreciating beauty when he saw it. Then his eyes drifted lower to her book, finally noticing the title. At first he was silent, then a chuckle of amusement left him and he grinned.
"The Vampire Diaries, huh? What do you think of it?" Truthfully, he HAD read the books. Shortly after meeting Gabe, as a matter of fact, just to see how fiction depicted vampires. He was glad to know that his own romance with a vampire was completely different to what was in most fiction. "I'm not too fond of vampire fiction. It's so out of proportion, and mostly innaccurate." Now, Alyssa has always been the nice, girl-next-door type of person. Ask anyone around here and they'll tell you she's as traditional as they come. But she has changed in the last few years, too. The post-UCLA Alyssa knows what she wants and she goes for it. Truth be told, what she really wanted was more time with that hot vampire she met by the lake in Bon Temps. Zeke, his name was. But, the sun was up, he was nowhere to be found and the girl could really use some company.
So, right now, who she wanted was Jaxon. The cute boy, who may have just gotten out of high school, walked over and took the chair she cleared up for him. She listened to him spell out exactly why she loved the idea of Coffee Beans and Tea Leaves, her smile widening still in response to his. He's got teeth as nice as his eyes, she noted. Alyssa was a little mesmerized so it took her a second to realize that he had asked her a question. "Four long years," she answered with mock melancholy. "I've been back a few weeks but this is the first time I came in. I've been spending a lot of time at my old haunts."
Apparently, though, she hadn't hidden her book as cleverly as she thought she had. Turning it over just didn't suffice, it turns out. Her flirtatious smile turned into an embarrassed grin. "I think it's a nice breath of fresh air," she said hoping to sound smart despite being caught reading a pre-teen series. "I mean we all already know what vampires are really like, right? So, a different perspective is kinda fun sometimes." She grabbed his book, giving him a may i? look. "What about you? Is this homework? AP History?" she asked, wondering if he really was still in high school. Alyssa Addison Baker

"Well, things have certainly changed since them vampires came around," Jaxon replied simply, as he pushed the book towards her after she asked about it, a smile lingering on his lips. "Shreveport's a lot busier than it once used to be. And I've been here for 21 years."
So, she thought he was a high schooler? He didn't know whether to take that as a compliment or not, but waved it off with a laugh as she examined his Greek mythology book. "Oh, it's for my thesis. I'm on my last two weeks at the college, actually. Mythology, writing and art." Plus my boyfriend's a Greek vampire so I'm learning up as much on his history as I possibly can. Of course, he didn't actually say that. He smiled at her again and drained the last of his frappe before sitting the plastic cup on the table between them. "It's actually quite interesting. But then, I suppose you have to enjoy reading this sort of thing."
"And I suppose you're right," he laughed, finding this girl a breath of fresh air from the vampires he'd spent most of his time with. Aside from Gabe. But then, even sometimes he wanted the occasional bit of space from his lover. He needed to think over the fact that he'd be a vampire himself in a few short weeks. He broke from his thoughts when he realised Alyssa was smiling at him again. She certainly did have a beautiful smile, a smile that lightened her eyes and made her seem all together flirty and innocent all at the same time. "A breath of fresh air is all we need at times."

Alyssa sat back on her chair, legs still crossed in full view of the boy, and listed. So, he's not as young as I thought, Alyssa thought. She wasn't one for the whole cougar thing. "Exactly," she answered at the end of his little speech. She loved vampires as much as the next girl, maybe even more, but sometimes, their dangerous nature does get to her. Plus, she's a hopeless romantic so the whole Stefan and Elena thing was just her cup of tea. Of course, she didn't say that to him. It was enough to have admitted to reading it.
"So, you go to college in town?" she asked. "I considered that, too. I just figured there was more I was bound to learn if I went out west... Things that have nothing to do with school that is." Alyssa hadn't been that much of a party girl when she left but she certainly is now. In fact, she's been in town for a while and she's still looking for a good enough party.
Fangtasia would have been her first bet and she's been there once, but that didn't work out too well. She's been wanting to go back for a while but just hadn't gotten the chance just yet. "You know any good party spots around here?" Alyssa asked Jaxon. She had no idea if he would, considering the big thick book but you never know. She bent to pick up her cup from the low rise table, her skirt hiking up a little in the process. Alyssa Addison Baker

And once again Jaxon felt his eyes seek out those gorgeous slender legs of hers, noticing how she sat with them crossed so he could almost see what colour underwear she wore, but not so much so that he'd think she were easy. He let his eyes linger, taking in the gentle shape as his eyes drank them in before he let them rise slowly, before finally meeting her's once more. That was a bad habit. it made him look like he was constantly checking someone out. Well, in Alyssa's case he was, but that wasn't the point. it wasn't in the intent of wanting to sleep with her. He was just appreciating beauty. Although, if he weren't with Gabe, he'd consider Alyssa. She certainly was beautiful, and seemed to have a good enough personality.
"Yeah, I've been going there since I was 18," Jaxon nodded, folding his own legs as he ran a hand through his hair, smiling gently. "It's just lucky my course finishes in three weeks. If it weren't I wouldn't know what to do..."
Realising he'd probably just confused her, he changed the subject. Most people didn't like to hear about people turning into vampires, and he didn't know how she felt about vampires really. So he'd just keep his mouth shut. "As for party spots? I don't actually know of many places around here... Fangtasia is one, but I don't spend a lot of time in town anymore. Most of the time I'm down in Bon Temps. There's not much there either, but it's a nice quiet place..."
And my boyfriend lives there. That brought another smile to Jaxon's lips and he lifted his head to look at Alyssa carefully. "I know there's a bar called Hair of the Dog, but I don't know what it's like..."

"It's just lucky my course finishes in three weeks. If it weren't I wouldn't know what to do..." Jaxon had said and Alyssa's eyebrows furrowed a little. That certainly confused her a little, though she figured it was because, of course, who can stand one more minute of school than they have to, right? Although there was something abut how he said it and then suddenly changed the subject that suggested that there was more to it than that.
She felt his eyes on her as she picked up her coffee. Having always been fond of the attention, she silently took another sip of her peppermint mocha while he spoke, still taking in every inch of her. Alyssa was disappointed to hear that he didn't hear that he didn't seem to party as much as she thought he did; maybe big books like the one he had at the moment kept him from them. When he mentioned the Hair of the Dog, she smiled saying, "Yeah, I've heard of that place!" That bar was in the shady part of town where she never really went. "I've never been there, though. Something about it just doesn't feel right, you see."
"But Bon Temps, on the other hand," Alyssa continued, "I go there all the time." She didn't really know why she went to the little town just outside of Shreveport; maybe it was just a good place for her to be alone sometimes because it seemed like a cozy little town. "I wouldn't exactly agree with you about it being quiet, though," she added, thinking about the recent murder of women who people said were fangbangers. It was just that that's making her hesitant about being more open about her admiration for the vampires. Alyssa Addison Baker
