---------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- Gabriel felt it upon waking. As the feeling was too strong for him to ignore. He felt an extreme level of agitation coming from Jaxon. No matter the distance their blood bond was more than sufficient for him to feel it. and know his lover was in any form of distress was something Gabe couldn’t handle on any level. So he was quick to rise this night. But he took the time to feed beforehand. The memory of their last meeting still fresh in his mind. He didn’t like the idea of feeding on his love. But Jax never made it easy for him. So tonight he would have a full stomach on his side. And after he had himself taken care of, he ran. He found it a little faster to take a run than to use his bike. For Jaxon he didn’t have to play the human card. He could be what he was and that meant a great deal to him. Though he knew Jaxon would feel him the moment he set foot in his apartment building.
But after a few minutes, he was there. Running up the stairs with ease to find himself at Jax’s door. And he gave it a soft knock and not moments later it was opened. And Gabe came to find to what he was feeling to be true. Even Jaxon’s manner and movements were ‘off’ slightly. He rested one hand on the side of Jax’s face before pulling in to kiss him. But it ended all too quickly for his liking. Something had to be truly bothering him. “I felt you were distressed. So I thought I might see if I can help.” He spoke, finally stepping inside the door, and shutting it behind himself. When in truth, it wasn’t just that. He would not allow something to bring Jaxon any discomfort so long as he could do something about it.

---------- To say that Jaxon had been having a bad day was putting it lightly. It had been his final day at the college, and while he'd passed all his subjects he had been called to the guidance Councillor's office as his professors were curious as to why he had requested to be accelerated through his courses. So, what was he to do? He told the stupid dingbat the truth... that he wouldn't be able to attend the classes during the day because he'd be a vampire by the weekend, and it wouldn't matter if he had an education or not. Oh yeah, that had worked out REAL well (sarcasm intended, folks) she'd been so worried about him that she actually called his mother. HIS mother! He hadn't seen his mother since he'd moved out almost four years prior, save for the briefest phone conversations. And THEN the two of them, as well as his sister Laurie had tried to host an intervention, as they called it, to 'talk him out' of becoming a vampire. Pile a 3 hour conversation with his mother, and another two hours on the phone with his overbearing and irritating father - a conversation that ended in the two of them screaming at each other over the phone - the last thing on Jaxon's mind was turning into a vampire. He'd never actually realised it would cause so much trouble within his own family. Now how he wished he'd kept his mouth shut.
And now, to make matters worse, he'd gone two days without sleep due to worry and stress, and his agitation was only increasing. Of course, it didn't help that he'd spent those two days away from Gabe, and his patience and stability was on a frail ledge because of the separation. Fidgeting and grumpy, Jaxon spent most of the afternoon throwing books around his apartment and kicking things over, and had finally managed to drift into an unsteady sleep by the time the sun had set. That didn't last long, as he was pulled from sleep by the pull of Gabe's charismatic aura, and was at the door almost as soon as he heard his lover's knock. His shoulders tense and his eyes dark, he let them rise to meet Gabe's, and briefly felt warmth in his lover's kiss before he pulled back sharply, not quite in the mood for comfort as he turned and dropped down onto his couch, a hand over his eyes.
"Oh, you could, could you?" he asked rather snarkily, his tone cutting as his hand dropped away so his eyes to flick towards Gabe. "How insightful of you. Well, there's nothing you can do. Sorry. Guess you came all this way for nothing."

To admit that he was a bit taken back by Jaxon’s behavior would have been a small way of putting. He and Jaxon had had their moments, but never had one snapped at the other so rashly. But Gabe kept his calm face about him. He wanted to know what bothered Jaxon but he didn’t know as to how to go about it. So he supposed just directly asking would be best. “Well I rather hoped that I could.” He said in reply, his tone unchanging from its calm state. He saw that Jaxon was distraught. And the last thing he wanted to do was make it worse for him. But he couldn’t do anything if he didn’t know what it was that he was dealing with. But as he walked through Jax’s apartment he realized there was something. He found a book here and there inside a pile of whatever had been knocked over. Some of which appeared to have been picked up and just thrown back into its place.
“If I didn’t think I could I would not have come Jaxon.” He said softly. He placed his hands on either side of Jax’s face, and looked into his eyes. “I can’t stand to see you like this love. Tell me what’s bothering you. And I’ll see if I can help or not.” He said, letting the feelings of his own pour over. Trying to give Jaxon was comfort he could give. Gabe in truth didn’t know how to take this. But he had to know what had upset him so.

---------- Jaxon flinched, knocking Gabe's hands away at the same time before he rose to his feet and stepped past the vampire. He couldn't take this. Not at the moment. He loved Gabe, he really did, but right at that very moment, he was considering going back on the whole turning process. It had gotten him that stressed. And had fucked up so many things in his life in the course of a few hours. Hands clenched into fists and his breathe exhaled in an angry growl, before he turned back to Gabe, pushing away the feelings of love and comfort his lover was trying to pour into him. "There is NOTHING you can do, Gabe!" he snapped, knocking over a pile of books as he stepped away, crossing to where his phone was sitting on the table before shoving it roughly into his pocket.
He knew he was hurting Gabe, almost as much as he was hurting inside. But he was young, and he usually didn't have to deal with stress like this. He'd been taking life as it came with smiles. But all this shit that becoming a vampire... it brought up past things that he'd wanted to keep buried. It brought up conflicts with his father that he thought he'd gotten over, and it brought up rifts with his mother and sister that he knew he was never going to mend. And now... now he was taking it out on Gabe. "This is all your fault anyway. All because you had to notice me one night coming back from my class. Oh yeah, love at first sight. Could've mentioned the fact that EVERYONE i know would hate me once I turned."
His words were damn near thrown at Gabe, and he dropped down into one of the wooden chairs beside the small table he owned, hand clenched in a fist before he thumped it on the wooden surface, flinching at the pain that richocheted through his hand and wrist. "So unless you can turn back time and change it so none of this ever happened, then no... You're wrong. There is nothing you can do, Gabe."

To have his hands knocked away was one thing for him to endure. But to have Jaxon actually push back what feelings he was trying to give onto him quite literally stung in its own way. At this Gabe kept silent and just watched as he saw Jaxon going through this. And the fact that he wasn’t letting him help him was unnerving him to no end. It bothered him to no extent that he was being pushed away. But he stood there and took Jax’s comment as he would a physical blow. In silence, without showing the pain he was going through, but none the less it the there ever present. “I hardly think there is nothing I can do.” He replied simply.
But now, Gabe shot him a look. The root of this had finally revealed itself. He’d let someone know about his turning soon upcoming and now they were complicating his life. “Ah, so that’s what this is about. Your turning?” he spoke. “And yes, I did have to notice you. How could I not have seen you Jaxon? I don’t regret seeing you walk across campus that night, nor will I ever.” He said clearly. Without meaning it, his voice had changed its tone though. Going from its usual tone to a more authoritive one. It happened when he was trying to make sense. And quickly realized that, but continued anyway. “But, people take the knowledge of the turning in different ways Jaxon, not everyone is going to like the idea of it. Which is why I left the very thought and choice of it up to you to make. I did not see it as my place to push the option on you.” He paused. “So I hardly see how the fault entirely lies upon me.” He finished, his tone now showing its own. But not yet matching that of Jaxon’s.
Gabe had caught himself a little too late on his last statement and he knew it. it didn’t happen often but this he knew wouldn’t help anything at all. He knew the never show reason with the logic of someone who was altogether pissed.

---------- His jaw tensing, Jaxon let his eyes lift to meet Gabe's, faltering as he met the vampire's gaze; he looked away again, his aching hand lifting to rake through his hair. He didn't want to hear this. He didn't want to deal with this. His hands clenched before he looked away again, muttering softly under his breath before he stood and turned back to face him. "Oh, and as usual you make out you're the more mature one of us... Well... you know what I regret."
He stepped past Gabe and snatched his jacket off the coat rack before he opened the door. "I regret getting caught up in this bullshit..." with that, he left, the door slamming behind him. It wasn't until after he'd shut the door that the gravity of what he'd just done, and said, send a sharp pain through his heart. Eyes flicking towards the door, he took off, making his way down the stairs and out of his apartment. He wasn't even sure where he was going, or what he was doing. He just knew he couldn't face Gabe after what he'd said. Hell, he loved the vampire, he really did; but he was only human. He knew what he'd said was wrong, but he couldn't be expected to take it all with a smile all the time. And never before had he blown like that. And he only regretted that Gabe had been on the receiving end of his anger.
Without even noticing it, he'd ended up at the low wall that surrounded Shreveport college, his fingers drifting over the bricks as he let out a deep sigh. This was the spot where he'd first met Gabe. So many nights ago, after staying on campus for too long, he'd noticed the vampire as he crossed the wall. How beautiful Gabe had been, so ethereal. Unattainable by any man's standards. And Jaxon... still new to the world of male relations, must have seemed to innocent to the vampire. Nonetheless, it hadn't taken long for the two to fall for each other. It was almost like...
"Shit..." he murmured, raking a hand through his hair as he sighed and leant against the wall, turning to look up at his apartment building in the distance. He could still feel Gabe's hurt and worry, even from the distance between them. He only hoped Gabe could feel the regret in his body. His eyes slanted away as he pulled out his phone, dialling in a rather familiar number. "Mom? Hey... Yeah, I know it's late. No, I'm ok..."
He trailed off, letting her speak before his jaw set and he coughed, interrupting her. "Mom, no, just listen. And yes, that means you too Laurie, because I know mom put me on speaker. I'm sorry if my turning is a little dent in your lifestyle, but here's the thing. I fucking couldn't care less if you decided that my getting a haircut was a bad idea. I love Gabe and I will not have petty arguments and interventions coming from you and that asshole father of mine get in the way of that. So you can either choose to accept that in a week I'll be a vampire, or I can disown you all right now and never speak to you again."
There was silence as he finished, his hand clenching angrilly as he waited for his mother's response. He could hear the two of them arguing in the background; obviously Laurie was ok with Jaxon's decision, because she herself had met Gabe at one point and had seen the love the two of them shared. But his mother had other ideas. "If you become a vampire, I will never speak to you again."
"Oh, mother, stop being such an overbearing twit..." Laurie's voice sounded on the phone, signalling she'd taken the phone of speaker and off her mother. "Jax? Yeah, don't listen to her. I'm sorry about earlier. I kinda got dragged into the situation. No one told me it was Gabe that would be turning you. If you love him, and I know you do, then don't let us stand in your way. Even if mother stops talking to you, I'll be there if you ever need me..."
His little sister's admonition made him smile and he ended the call after bidding her farewell. As his eyes lifted to his apartment again, he dialled in another number. There was just one more phonecall to make. And he wasn't sure how this one would go. "Father? Yes, it is... No, I realise it's late. Yes, there's something we need to talk about."
Just like with his mother, Jaxon's father immediately went into a tangent of discussion, until Jaxon hastily interrupted him. "Father. I'm gay... and I'm in love with a vampire. Now, you can either accept that, and the fact that I'll be a vampire by the end of next week, or not. I don't care either way. You've always been a stubborn, overbearing man who's tried to fashion my future like your own. Well, here's a news flash. I don't want to be a lawyer! All I ever wanted was to know that you loved me, and that you were proud of me. Instead you kept shoving me towards careers that I'd never want in life. So now I'm giving you a choice. Either you accept the fact that I am who I am and everything that comes with it, or you can never speak to me again. Either way, I benefit, so I'll leave that up to you..."
With that, he hung up. As he did, he felt a huge weight lift off his chest. He knew he should've dealt with that earlier, but being able to see Gabe, and feel him close by had given Jaxon the strength to deal with his parents. Shoving his hands back into his pockets, he turned and made his way back up to his apartment. It seemed Gabe hadn't moved, and when he opened the door he felt his resolve crumble.
"Gabe..." he didn't even know what to say; he felt so ashamed for the way he'd acted and he didn't know if Gabe would forgive him or not.

---------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- Gabe couldn’t help but feel hurt. The blame did fall on him in some ways. He brought Jax into this life, and now when he was making the decision to join it, everyone around him wanted to lose their minds over it. Though many severely misunderstood what it was to be a vampire. Not all of his kind were the mindless monsters the society and religion had made them out to be. Though there were the sadistic few who gave many on his kind the appearance of being monsters. But now he didn’t even attempt to hide the hurt from being transferred over to Jaxon. But he could also feel Jax’s regret for the happening. Even though he had gone far from his apartment he could still feel it. And still Gabe stood where he was. He could stand there for days if it were not for sunrise.
But he felt the change in Jax’s mood. Like something had been resolved and moment later he was coming back through his door. And Gabe turned to face him. And as his name was spoken he could no longer stay in his place. And he crossed the distance with no effort and kissed Jaxon with all the passion he had to offer. “Do not blame yourself. I knew this would be difficult at some point. Your anger was well placed. But you need not blame yourself for your action.” He said, kissing him again. And now he pulled him in the door, closed it, and pinned him against it. And he continued about conveying his feelings for Jaxon over to him.
“I know we had planned to turn you in a few days. But if you need more time, I won’t you into this. Whether you chose to be human or vampire, I will love none the less.” He spoke. he then nuzzled his head into Jax’s throat, wanting, needing to take in the scent of him.

---------- He couldn't understand what had pushed him to acting such a way in front of the person he loved. He'd been acting like a stubborn child, throwing a tantrum. Gabe didn't deserve that. He deserved someone who loved him and was willing to do anything to be there. And Jaxon knew, in that moment ,as his lips responded eagerly to Gabe's, that he wanted to be there every moment, to witness every second, ever embrace... every kiss. his hands rose and slid around the vampire's neck, pulling him closer as his lips parted, his tongue slipping past Gabe's lips and into his mouth as a soft moan left him. He loved Gabe more than anything... It had truly been fate. Never had he fallen so hard, so fast, but now he never wanted to be saved. He wanted to keep drowning in Gabe.
"No," he replied softly, pulling back as his fingers trailed along Gabe's jaw, a smile on his lips as he let out the breath he'd been holding. "I want to, Gabe. If it were up to me, I wouldn't wait another night... but I want to be with you, completely."
He knew it was hard for them to be together, since some nights Jaxon was unable to be with Gabe due to school or other human trivialities, but he wanted to give that all up and be with Gabe, no matter what. He was willing to leave behind mortality for true love, and his soulmate.
